KCAVP Founder and Executive Director Resigns

Tuesday, 19 May 2009

Kansas City, MO—The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project (KCAVP) announces the resignation of founder and executive director, Doug Riley, effective July 31, 2009. Doug is leaving KCAVP after more than seven years in furthering his education. The board of directors, staff and many supporters of KCAVP wish him well in his new and exciting education.

During Riley’s tenure, KCAVP has grown into a vital, highly respected and indispensible service for the Kansas City area lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes.

“We are sad to see Doug go, and at the same time, we look forward to the next step in growing the organization with another highly effective leader,” said Ken Hagenback, president of the board of directors of KCAVP. “Doug has created a very well respected and effective organization from nothing that I am proud to be a part of. There are now resources for LGBT people that were not available seven years ago.”

The board of directors is currently searching for a new executive director and plan to have one in place by the end of July ensuring a smooth operational transition. The staff and board of KCAVP continue their work of ending all types of violence in the lives of those in the Kansas City area LGBT community educating the community as a whole during the transition.

KCAVP is a Missouri nonprofit corporation committed to providing services, advocacy and education for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and hate crimes within the eight counties that encompass the metropolitan Kansas City area.
